A true Legend

More often than not as young people we only get to see our heroes and legends on screens or long distance stages and rarely do we get to meet them, have a one on one or even still work with them but this was the rare privilege to work with a legend like Dr. Biaka at the St. Veronica Medical Centre as his Laboratory scientist. He was a true father, teacher and boss. We talked a lot during our early morning rendezvous’ for his blood sugar test or during the times he called me in to discuss some results or patient conditions. I was privileged during these moments to get to know some of the ingredients of a great success such as Dr. Biaka was. Even though he owned the entire facility and was a little set back by his stroke I had to race most times just so I could be at work before him, he was always on time. His humility was admirable, even if I could not punish or judge him, he still made excuses to me each time his blood sugar was higher, in his words ‘oh my son it’s just that I had a cup of tea with sugar this morning’. He disciplined us well and was strict on me teaching me how to act as a graduate from the university, he told me the expectations on me was not the same as for others and this pushed me each time to take up the standards. Life at St. Veronica cannot be the same without you ‘old Paps’ but we only promise to keep your standards for a legacy, Adieu Doctor.

It is well
I did not know the man personally, but his clinic is near my sister's house and his daghter is my sister in Christ. She is one of the pillars of our church. Unfortunately, I could not be there to support her but our church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God showed a strong presence. My thoughts are with my sister and the family.

My Heartfelt Condolences

My Heartfelt Condolences

Someone as special as you will never be forgotten.  Some people come into our lives and leave indelible FOOTPRINTS on our hearts.  You were one of those, Doc. I remember vividly our last conversation on May 1, 2013, when you invited me to spend some time with you after my mother’s funeral.  Over a cup of tea on that fateful morning twelve months ago, you had said to me: “Maggie, I’m happy to see you again. I would have gone a longtime ago but thanks to you sister, Franka, am still alive.”  And as the tears began dripping from my eyes, you intervened with these words: “Do not cry, I know my days are numbered.”  Doc., you are no longer with us.  But know that your life gave us too many beautiful memories.  These memories, for me, are living and enduring….  There is no good-bye from me because you will forever remain in my heart. My prayers are for Franka and your family, that the Lord Almighty should grant them the wisdom and fortitude necessary to carry forward your legacy.

Fare thee well, Uncle

Tears and sorrow of your passing fill our hearts in a special place... taking their toll.  They spring from our memories of you—those you left behind, whom you touched and loved ever so kindly, who knew you, whose lives you saved (like mine) and enriched with joy abundance through your professional craft—relatives, friends, patients, acquaintances, etc. To that end the limitations of our culture imposed on us until you burst forth into the scene, a visionary-trailblazer, and broke a new path through which you touched even those who did not know you as well as those yet-to-be-born.  You tore asunder the veil of time by reaching into the distant future to capture their hearts long before they were born and by compelling them today to tomorrow behold the marvelous monument of civilization you wrought on the foothills of the Cameroon Mountain.  Uncle, you did it all… exceptionally well!  Our tears and soorow are no match to the call of your Maker.  Now that the Lord has summoned you home, I wish you a peaceful journey and Eternal rest. Farewell!
